A tiny tanned seed –
a grain of mustard
sandwiched between
two onion skins
that have been
cut in a circle –
marks time in mid air
under my lamp.

A grain with a portable halo,
or is it a really small
flying saucer ?

The head of the lamp
looks a bit like a spaceship too.

Maybe it’s a baby lamp bug
warming up to spread light
all over the world
to herald a new. . .

or other.

At night, around nine,
I find him there, hovering.

I have no idea. . .

but the night he’s not there anymore
I will really miss him.
