A Day Out

tall dandelions play at fish
swiming in the meadow grass

the guardian trees have all
decided who they are –
a bit condescending
towards the skittery birds
who are not quite sure yet,
needing a mirror or a mate
to clinch it

cows aren’t paying attention at all –
less than thrilled at the algae
mucking up their trough

and while you pee behind a post
I fold my legs under me
like a lamb on the front seat
unable to decide
if I should bleat
or purr
