mourning

grief comes in waves –
like sea water and sunlight –
to try to hold on to it
would be futile;
rending one’s garments
cutting one’s hair
never proved a thing
about love or care

the love people felt –
and still feel –
will find its home
in those whom loss
leaves unsheltered –
no need to keen and keel
