Kleptocracy

They pander to your fear of death, the grave,
as well as to your egotistic bent:
to think Creation cares how you behave
and how your decades in the world are spent.
(gulp) fiery retributions haunt your dreams –
mad tortures meant to terrify the mind –
In truth, that’s how the power broker schemes
and rich men dupe the ignorant and blind.
No evidence exists of paradise,
of lush rewards for suffering on earth.
Just think it through and soon you will surmise:
the bastards own you – starting from your birth…
and mortal rulers, crowned, will all endorse
whichever lies their rights to theft enforce.
