For all the little sweethearts writing verse out there

There’s a very fine poem waiting in there, chile, just waitin’ to greet the day; but inches away’s as good as a mile – see, a stanza’s more work than just play. Now poetry don’t have to rhyme, for sure, and it don’t have to square off the page – but if you gotta taste for the sweet and the pure then lock yourself in a cage: and work all day and work all night – saying it over and over and then some ’til every DAMN syllable fits just right and it’s all decked out and handsome!

or
just type out whatever
you happen to feel
at the moment,
however trite and lumpy;
stick it on a page
with some syrupy artwork
and call yourself a poet.
You certainly won’t be the first who did!
