Emily’s Menu

She swallows the chirps
of sparrows for breakfast,
dines on ripple of spring trout
through waving algae at noon.
If owl drops by with news
they may share by way of midnight snack
a deep dark plateful of salty stars…
which tends to leave them both
thirsty for tomorrow.
